Remember when Elon Musk took it up as a personal challenge to make the most of “free speech” on Twitter? Irrespective of whether he moved forward with the $44 billion bid or not, Twitter sure has made an attempt to customize users’ experience as far as possible. Have you checked out twitter’s new reply filter?
Twitter announced that with the use of an automatic reply filter, Twitter users will soon be able to weed out potentially damaging and disrespectful comments.
App researcher Jane Manchun Wong discovered the new function and posted a screenshot on Twitter:
Users can toggle (switch on or off) the reply filter by going to the privacy and safety settings.
Twitter acknowledges that it may mistakenly censor answers that aren’t harmful, so it’s a good idea to check this part of the privacy and safety panel in case you missed anything.
Here is what Twitter says about the new feature:
“Replies to your tweets that contain potentially harmful or offensive language will be filtered and appear here. Others can still see these replies. Keep in mind we use technology to help us identify such replies, so while we’re always improving, we may not get it right all the time.”
To put it another way, Twitter will not censor tweets. It’s doubtful that anyone else will be aware when specific replies are hidden from the user who posted the original tweet.
The goal of this reply filter is to lessen the amount of hostility that Twitter users or account managers encounter.
According to Twitter, a person’s mental health may benefit by seeing fewer harmful tweets each day. Not to add the comfort it brings to know that you may review your responses without reading something you regret.
