Enterprise SEO Metrics You Can’t Afford to Ignore

Large websites, with thousands of pages, multiple teams and many product lines, can't be managed by watching a handful of keyword rankings. Enterprise SEO needs metrics that show where growth is coming from, where it's leaking, and which teams need to act. This is how our SEO services team reports on large sites.

These are the metrics we'd put on any enterprise SEO dashboard.

Business outcome metrics

1. Organic revenue and conversions by page type

Segment results by template, such as category pages, product pages, blog and location pages, so you can see which parts of the site drive business. A 10% lift in category-page conversions may be worth more than doubling blog traffic. For ecommerce websites, category and product templates usually matter most.

2. Non-brand organic clicks

Brand searches reflect awareness built elsewhere. Non-brand clicks show whether SEO is winning new demand. Track them separately in Google Search Console using query filters.

3. Share of search visibility

Measure your visibility for a defined set of commercial keywords against named competitors. It's the clearest way to show executives whether you are gaining or losing ground in the market.

Technical health metrics

4. Indexation rate

What percentage of the pages you want in Google are actually indexed? Search Console's Page indexing report shows indexed versus excluded pages and why. Large drops often signal technical problems before traffic falls.

5. Crawl efficiency

Search Console's Crawl Stats report shows how often Google crawls the site and what it spends time on. If crawlers are busy with filters, parameters and duplicate URLs, important new pages may be discovered slowly.

6. Core Web Vitals

Track Largest Contentful Paint (loading), Interaction to Next Paint (responsiveness) and Cumulative Layout Shift (visual stability) by template. Field data from real users matters more than lab scores.

7. Time to index new content

How long between publishing a page and it appearing in search? For news, ecommerce launches and seasonal campaigns, this directly affects revenue.

Content and authority metrics

8. Content decay

Identify pages whose clicks have declined over six to twelve months. Refreshing decaying pages is often the fastest win on a large site. A refresh plan built on SEO content best practices usually recovers lost traffic faster than new pages.

9. Referring domains and link quality

Track the number of unique, relevant sites linking to you, and to which sections. Count quality and relevance, not raw link totals.

10. Cannibalisation

Multiple pages competing for the same query split authority and confuse search engines. Monitor queries where several of your URLs rank and alternate.

Emerging: visibility in AI search

AI Overviews and AI assistants increasingly answer questions directly. Track which of your priority queries trigger AI Overviews, whether your brand is cited, and how click-through changes on those queries. This is still an evolving area, but ignoring it means missing a growing share of discovery.

Building the dashboard

  • Executive view: organic revenue, non-brand clicks and share of visibility.
  • SEO team view: indexation, crawl stats, Core Web Vitals, decay and cannibalisation.
  • Content and product teams: performance of their own page templates and sections.

Use Search Console, GA4 and your crawler or SEO platform as sources, and connect them in Looker Studio or a BI tool so each team sees the same numbers. Our comparison of SEO reporting tools covers the main options.
