You Can Now Add Add Closed Captions To Your LinkedIn Videos

Much like Instagram and TikTok, LinkedIn too has hopped on to the video marketing trend to include closed captions in its videos.

Did you know that most individuals turn off sound when using social media? This includes when using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to view video material. According to studies by Digiday, up to 85% of people watch social media videos without sound. This means, if you don’t have captions, you’re missing out on the opportunity to engage a huge number of people.

LinkedIn has recognised this opportunity and is improving video content with automatically created captions and including a number of additional tools to help those who require accessibility.

LinkedIn wants to improve accessibility for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who prefer to watch videos without sound by adding automated captions.

During the upload process, LinkedIn will automatically add subtitles; you can choose to use them right away or check and correct them.

In addition, LinkedIn is introducing a high contrast mode for the mobile app, which will modify colours to increase accessibility for those with visual impairments.

Here Is How You Can Add Closed Captions To Your LinkedIn Videos

Before the video may be posted, it must have an appropriate SRT (SubRip Subtitle) file attached.

(Note: Videos posted by personal accounts or LinkedIn Pages can have closed captions added.)

LinkedIn has shared how you can add closed captions:

  • Click the Video icon from the share box at the top of your LinkedIn homepage (desktop experience).
  • Select the video to share by clicking on the pop-up that displays.
  • Choose the video from your desktop that you want to share.
  • To check your video’s settings, click Edit in the top right corner of the video preview that pops up.
  • To connect an SRT file and confirm your choice, click Select Caption.
  • Click “Post” after adding any additional text or hashtags.

In the upcoming weeks, automatic subtitles on movies will start to appear, and alt text for advertisements will follow “soon.” The other functionalities mentioned in this article are all currently accessible.
